LambdaNet

Technologies

The European LambdaNet network is based on a homogenous, robust fiber optic infrastructure, providing at least two independent lines to connect LambdaNet locations. It shows an organized and clear structure, enabling efficient planning and short provisioning periods.

SDH and DWDM

DWDM systems with up to 224 wavelengths per fiber pair and SDH multiplex technology operating at transmission rates of 10 Gbit/s (STM-64),  LambdaNet's fiber network supports up to 1.1 terabit/s (1,100 Gbit/s) per fiber pair. A data volume equivalent to roughly 13.5 million simultaneous phone calls.

Employment of MS-SPRing provides for efficient use of the transmission capacity on the one hand, and for a high availability of connections on the other hand.

IP and MPLS

The European LambdaNet IP backbone is based on transmission capacities up to 10 Gbit/s, provided via the LambdaNet fiber network. Therefore the LambdaNet IP backbone offers an optimal platform to operate IP services with best performance and high capacities Europe-wide. Additionally, employment of MPLS in the LambdaNet IP backbone provides for efficient and capable routing of IP packets. Furthermore, MPLS offers the possibility to operate so-called virtual private networks (VPN) in the LambdaNet IP/MPLS backbone. MPLS provides for security, quality of service, flexibility,  scalability and simplified management.
